with our lovely couple, Christy + Nick
Well, technically this isn’t an engagement session….Christy and Nick are already married and had the full wedding and all, but were hoping to get engagement style photos of them doing their favorite hobby together….Cycling!! My dad was actually an amateur cyclist too, so that combined with shooting triathlons helped with creating some fun and unique couple Malibu Canyon engagement photography.
Cycling Lifestyle Photos in Malibu Canyon
We started the shoot in Malibu canyon, doing multiple passes to get different angles and what not of them cycling. They also had different cycling jerseys to model for the shoot. Then we went down to EL Matador Beach in Malibu to finish off the shoot with beach photos and sunset photos (though the sunset is usually blocked by the cliffs there). I came up with some AWESOME photos of the blue hour after the sunset.
This is an awesome view of the city of Malibu down below.
Then you have to get the “I just biked 30 miles and I’m taking a break” photo.
And we brought in their little dog into the engagement photo session.
Malibu Beach Engagement Photos
We then went down to El Matador State Beach, one of our favorite beaches along the Malibu Beach coastline. There are steep stairs going down to the beach, which is where we started our engagement photos.
The Rocks at El Matador Beach
The rocks here at El Matador Beach are large and textured and amazing. They make a wonderful backdrop for the engagement photography.
The sun dipped down below the cliffs, so we didn’t get a direct line of sight to the sunset. We instead used the blue hour to still get distinct and unique engagement photos at the beach.
Just look at the fog created by the misty waves coming up, which we can now see now that it’s dark.
Malibu Canyon Engagement Photography
This Malibu engagement photography session was shot in Malibu Canyon and finished at the El Matador Beach. For more examples of Los Angeles engagement photography, make sure to check out the rest of our wedding blog! We also have more current wedding photos on our Instagram, which shows what we have been up to recently. We tend to experiment a lot, so definitely check out how our work progresses and changes over time as we try new things.
Malibu Canyon feels like a remote location even though it’s in close proximity to Los Angeles and Santa Monica. It’s many beaches, such as El Matador beach and Zuma Beach, are hidden gems. Make sure you choose an engagement photographer familiar with the ins and outs of these locations, especially since not all of it is accessible.
