Quyen and Josh wanted a natural and rustic look to their engagement session, along ending it at a beach for sunset. We chose to do Malibu Creek State Park engagement photography followed by catching the sunset at El Matador State Beach, one of the more scenic beaches along the Malibu coast.
Starting with Malibu Creek State Park Engagement Photography
We found a wood log to ease our couple into the session. One thing about an engagement portrait session is getting comfortable with us and the camera. As the shoot goes along, we get better and better photos that represent our couple more and more.
The dead trees from recent fires had created a ghostly and surreal backdrop.
A Huge Tree in Malibu Creek
We proceeded down a hiking trail until we came across a huge tree in the middle of Malibu Creek. It made the perfect backdrop for our engagement photos.
Malibu Beach Engagement Photos for the Sunset
We then headed over to one of the most picturesque of the Malibu beaches, El Matador State Beach.
Here is our couple underneath a natural arch in the jutting cliffs (or actually one of the hoodoo looking parts of the cliff that have broken off).
And we always love when a wave creates a funny moment.
And the waves create another fun moment!
The Sunset on a Malibu Beach
The sunset went over one of the cliffs, but we made the best of that beautiful day.
Here is a long exposure, where we drag the shutter to let the water turn into thin wisps.
Malibu Creek State Park Engagement Photography
This is an engagement photography portrait session done in Malibu Creek at the state park (MCSP). There is a huge tree next to the many fields and hiking trails. We then headed over to El Matador State Beach for more engagement photos, which is arguably one of the prettiest of the Malibu beaches. There are towering cliffs and even a natural arch. Here is another example of engagement photography at El Matador State Beach.
It’s important to choose a photographer that understands these specific locations and can create unique and memorable images. We’ve seen many photographers take a great location and deliver sub-par images due to inexperience. Taking engagement photos at a beautiful location like El Matador State Beach or Malibu Creek State Park is something that the images above demonstrate our ability and creative perspective. There are many little things that we see, such as the angle of the sunset in relation to the cliffs, and how to handle capturing images with time delays and unexpected events. Time and time again we have delivered reliable, consistent, and beautiful images while making the experience as pleasant as possible.
